John Scofield torna con "Country For Old Men"

E se John Scofield decidesse di darsi al country? Nessun problema, questa eventualità sta per divenire realtà grazie all'uscita del nuovo album firmato dal chitarrista americano. Uscirà per Impulse! il prossimo 23 settembre e si chiamerà Country For Old Men, nuovo capitolo discografico per Scofield dopo il grande successo di Past Present, album premiato ai Grammy dell'anno scorso come Best Instrumental Jazz Album.

Dodici brani scelti per essere trasformati in qualcosa che assomiglia molto ad un tributo d'amore verso un repertorio che lo stesso Scofield ha detto essere sempre stato parte della sua vita. Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Jack Clement, Johnny Mercer, ma anche alcuni traditional ed un brano di Shania Twain, la scaletta firmata da John Scofield non potrebbe essere delle più sorprendenti.

The improvisation and group feel are essential to each track. I think all the tunes work as jazz. Plus, I was really inspired to sound ‘country’ when I played the melodies. Un disco country suonato da musicisti solitamente dediti al jazz, ad accompagnare Scofield in questa nuova avventura ci sono due amici di vecchia data, Bill Stewart e Steve Swallow, ai quali si è aggiunto per l’occasione anche Larry Goldings, unico elemento del quartetto ad avere diretta esperienza nel campo della country music grazie alla sua esperienza nella band di James Taylor.
